Speaker: Pastor Sam Gara
Topic: God Is Alpha and Omega
Texts: Isa 44:6, Rev 1:8
Isa 44:6 Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.
Rev 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
Our God is the beginning of everything that has a beginning and the end of everything that has an end, however HE does not have beginning or end. He is transcendent (beyond the range of normal or physical human experience.
Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
In the beginning …. connotes time: time came into existence.
…God created the heaven: space came into existence.
…and the earth: matter came into existence.
So, time, space and matter came into existence at His instance but Himself is beyond them. (Rom 4:17 …whose command brings into being what did not exist. CEV)
So even though we are looking at ‘God is Alpha and Omega’, it is important to note that God exists beyond what we can measure.
B. HE is Alpha…Beginning…First
What then does it mean to be Alpha? In the animal kingdom we talk about the alpha male – the dominant animal in the pack. However, our God is not just dominant amongst other beings, no! He is different, He is Holy! Holy!! Holy!!! (Isa 6:1-3, Rev 4:8)– He is set apart. (Isa 40:17-18 All nations before him are as nothing; and they are counted to him less than nothing, and vanity. To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him?) Our God is incomparable, indescribable.
The scriptures tell us in John 1:1-3 that all things were made by Him (Jesus Christ) and without him was not anything made that was made. This we can see confirmed in Colossians chapter 1.
Col 1:16-17 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
The revelation of this truth that we are His creation, that our beginning is in Him should give us peace. He is Alpha of everything that has a beginning, even the things / beings that have rebelled are all His creation and are subject to His authority.
C. HE is Omega…End…Last
How is our God Omega? In our learning of God’s attributes, we have learnt that He is Omniscience (all knowing). Our God is Omega…He has the last say over every matter but Himself is ageless and timeless. He knows the end from the beginning (Rev 4:1 After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: …Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.) He knows all things that are yet to happen. That is why He is God!!!
In the middle ages, men designed and built cathedrals. Some of these cathedrals took over 100 years to complete. Cathedrals were built with the Bible in mind, numbers and shapes used for the construction where from the Bible. For example, the Cathedral at Peterborough in England was constructed between 1118 – 1237AD (about 119years). Those who designed and commenced the construction never saw the completed structure. That is within human realm, but not our God! He sees to the end of everything He starts.
Our God knows the end, navigates us through life, and brings us to an expected end. (He is Omega). He does not have abandoned projects and so we will never be abandoned. ((GW) Phil 1:6 I'm convinced that God, who began this good work in you, will carry it through to completion on the day of Christ Jesus.) Jesus was sure of His path on earth and the end of it. Paul also had the privilege of knowing his path and when the end was at hand. Our times are in His hands, and so is our ending here on earth. Let us ensure we finish well (2Ti_4:7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:)
We are God’s project – (GW -Eph 2:10 God has made us what we are. He has created us in Christ Jesus to live lives filled with good works that he has prepared for us to do.)
He has predestined us to become like His Son -(CEV Rom 8:28-29 We know that God is always at work for the good of everyone who loves him. They are the ones God has chosen for his purpose, and he has always known who his chosen ones would be. He had decided to let them become like his own Son, so that his Son would be the first of many children.)
The expected end is for us to become like Jesus- There is nothing that can cut short or truncate God’s purpose – Not COVID 19, Not banditry, Not lack, Not abundance … can stop God’s work in our lives.
Irrespective of what situation we face, let us have this confidence that ‘Alpha and Omega’ is the one holding us.
Remember, Pharaoh cannot stop Him from releasing His children into Canaan and Hilter cannot annihilate the people He destined to go back to rebuild the Nation of Israel. According to the Word of God, What He said came to pass. He is Alpha and Omega.
He is Alpha and Omega, (Mat_24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.)
Rev 22:12,13 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
He is ALPHA and OMEGA, and all that is in between. He is more than able to keep us, but we must yield to HIM. You cannot be an abandoned project in His hands. Amen.
- Help me Lord to receive the revelation of this Truth, that You are Alpha and Omega. Thank You Lord that I cannot be an abandoned project in Your hands.
- Let this truth set our hearts at peace in this era of uncertainties in human realm (COIVD 19, terrorism, kidnappings, financial uncertainties, deception everywhere.).
- Let this Truth propel us to align with You (God) in Your plan for men: that we will yield ourselves to You in reconciling men back to You in Christ Jesus. (Mat 24:14)
- Let this knowledge strengthen me to live a holy life (1 John 3:2).
God bless us as we live in the light of this Truth! Amen.
