“But understand this, that in the last days will come perilous times of great stress and trouble [hard to deal with and hard to bear]. For people, will become lovers of self and [utterly] self-centered, lovers of money and aroused by an inordinate [greedy] desire for wealth, proud and arrogant and contemptuous boasters; for [although] they hold a form of piety (true religion), they deny, reject and are strangers to the power of it. (2nd Timothy 3:1-2; 5).
“Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising. Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: all they gather themselves together, they come to thee: thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side” (Isaiah 60:1-4).
It is in the midst of this gross darkness that God commands for us to arise. We are called to be the sunlit generation to the darkened earth, one consumed by sin, ignorance and sorrow. The time has come for us to wake up and do what we were created to do; reflect the glory of the Lord. Enough with the pretense and lukewarmness. We may have succeeded in impressing people with the outward show-off religious appearance but God is not fooled. To be a light, you have to be connected to a power source. The light has to be shone on you first before it shines from you (John 8:12). How is your relationship with God? You cannot give what you do not have. God is sounding an alarm to awaken the Church to its end time purpose of filling the earth with the knowledge of His glory; “For the earth, shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea” (Habakkuk 2:14). For this to be fulfilled, we need to first be humble enough to accept the truth of the fallen state of the church. We need to look within and cry out to God for a great reawakening and revival amongst the ourselves first. There has to be a restoration and transformation. Only then can we be light showing forth the glory of God to the world. Anyone who claims to be intimate with God ought to live the same life that Jesus lived; living a transformed life.
Transformation begins with mind renewal; “And be not conformed to this world but be ye transformed by the renewing of your minds that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God” (Romans 12:2). This involves dropping everything you are and have as a sacrifice at the feet of God and yielding completely to the leading of the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:14; 12:1); being dead to self and its desires, which means getting rid of things that dim the brilliance of the light i.e. those indulgences we unconsciously allow to take the place of God in our lives. The time to get naked in all honesty with yourself and God and look at yourself in the mirror of truth [the WORD of God] is now.
The world is dire need of the church in its true form; one that is subject to the Holy Spirit. We are the carriers of the glory of God. It is through us that the knowledge of the glory of God will fill the earth. We are the light. Let us live out our God given identity; deliberately choosing to be led by the Spirit of God. It is time to rise up and shine. This is the clarion call. Don’t let 2017 be a wasted year.
